Blog Journal #3
I believe that it is a good idea to teach students about copy right and fair use. It builds up to the idea of plagiarism and cheating, and it is important to teach children that it is important to have their own work. As a future teacher who will be developing their own material, I believe that copy right is a very important concept. I am aware of a site called "Teachers Pay Teachers" where teachers can buy activities and lessons and materials that other teachers have created, which they can then use in their classroom. In order for that to work, the teachers must have a copy right liscence on their materials so no one can steal it without buying the materials first. I like this idea, and will be both creating materials and buying materials on this site for my future classroom. When students are creating their own works, I will encourage them to use "copy righting" by making sure that they keep their eyes on their own paper and do not copy others. One thing new I have learned about copy righting is that copy right terms and useages runs out the life of the author plus 70 years.
One major technology implementation issue in the classroom is academic dishonesty. In order to remedy this situation, I would use various technology platforms that ensure that students are not going off on a different tab to look up the answers. One example of this is Lockdown browser, where students will be locked on a certain page and will not be able to access a different part of their computer until they submit that assignment. Another example would be Light Speed classroom or EdTech where the teachers will be able to simultaneously monitor students screens to ensure they are doing the appropriate task.
Working on the Newsletter design has helped me to develop different skills of formatting and layout that I intend to implement when doing Newsletters for my own classroom. I learned how to make the layout visually pleasing with color and organized columns, in addition to adding helpful hyper-links. These skills that I have learned will be helpful when making my own Newsletters and daily whiteboard for my classroom.
