Blog Post #5

I pleasantly enjoy my experience with blogging! It gives me freedom to be creative and reflective in a way that I did not expect. I like that it allows me to express my thoughts and experiences without having to worry about having a formal tone. It feels weird to be able to write so freely for a class! Through the blogging process, I have learned how to communicate more clearly for a different kind of audience.

As I am beginning to explore artificial intelligence in education, I feel both optimistic and cautious about it's role in classrooms. There are many educational benefits from using AI in a classroom, it can help with designing lesson plans and hand-outs, and can provide instant feedback. However, I do have concerns about there being a heavy reliance on these technologies. I believe that using AI in the classroom should be used as a supportive tool to help when needed.

I personally have a love-hate relationship with Generative AI. Sometimes it works really well, and addresses everything I ask in the prompt and even goes deeper. But other times the exact opposite happens, which can lead to frustration. With our assignment, the generative AI platform that I used did not fully meet my expectations or visions. The final product lacked things that I asked for, specifically color and clarity when asking it to map out a lesson plan for fourth graders. I think in the future I would only use it as a rough guide for a lesson plan that I would then make on my own to make sure that it fully satisfies every point it needs to.

In my future teaching practices, I can see myself using AI to help map out lesson plans or perhaps to help create a hand-out I would pass out to the class. I could also use it to help generate thoughtful questions or scenarios I could use in my teaching. To address the ethical concerns, I would create a clear boundry between utalizing AI to help, and relying on AI to make things for me all of the time. I would also teach students about using it resonsibly and ensure that they are knowledgable on academic integrity.
