Blog Journal #9

My fist experience with distance learning in K-12 education was during covid in 2020. After spring break that year, my entire school was online for the rest of the entire year. In my middle school, most of the homework and in-class assignments were handwritten in person, so I was not used to using a computer to do work. Personally, the google meet times for my classes were not specific, where sometimes the teacher met with the students, and sometimes they didn't. Additionally, there were times were Google Meet did not work at all for either students or teachers. Honestly, the whole thing was a complete and total mess. Additionally, one of the classes I took was chorus, which was hard to complete online. My school did not use Google classroom, so it was hard to organize a virtual classroom, it would've been a good idea to have experienced that at the time. In the end, there were no finals, tests, or anything other than homeworks that were due while doing distance learning.

Working on the power point assignment helped my technology-based design skills. With canva, usually people will just edit already established templates, with power point, there are no templates. This makes your work compleately your own, and helps with being able to design your lesson plan to include what you want. I like how we were able to include pictures and design our themes however we want. What I did not like about the assignment was having to do different layouts. There were only so many layout options to chose them, and sometimes it would make the information presented look unorganized and messy, which I did not like.

I do not have any questions, however I do have a assignment suggestion. Since students/ teachers rely so much on using canva templates, I suggest we make our own template or worksheet that we can use for classrooms. Not many people know how to design something original on canva. I think this assignment can help with creativity and learning how to design from blank on Canva.
