Blog Journal #10

I enjoyed creating a lesson on Power Point for the Power Point lesson presentation. There were a few things I could have done differently. One of these things was doing transitions on the slides themselves insetead of just the pictures. This can have an effect of being more interesting and engaging. Another thing I could've done differently was adding in more slides to use up more time and present my information. I speak a lot faster than I read, so my presentation was not that long.

As a future english teacher, I would use data collection tools like Qualtrics and Google Forms to better understand my 10th-grade students’ reading habits, interests, and comprehension levels. At the start of a unit, I could create a survey to assess which genres or themes students feel most confident with, or like the most. Then, I could use the answers to this survey to use more engaging reading material in the class. I could also use those tools to track writing and literacy skills, and can change my lesson plan based on the answers to better help my students.

A technology-related skill I would like to learn next is how to use data visualization tools, specifically Tableau, to better understand my student's data. My SMART goal is: Within the next three months, I will complete at least two beginner tutorials and create three sample dashboards using Tableau to visualize classroom data such as student performance and survey results. To accomplish this goal, I will spend two hours each week learning through online resources and practicing putting in mock classroom data.  I will also track my progress by saving each completed dashboard and reflecting on what I learned after each session. By the end, I feel confident that I will have reached my goal!
